  • WE ARE…

... THE PERKES. We still consider ourselves newlyweds [we've been married for almost 5 years]. Our firstborn, Jace, is now 2 years old, and became a big brother when Sofia Rain joined our family in November 2012. We are from the East Coast [Luisa is from MA and Nate is from NH]. We are Bronco's Fans [We've lived in the Boise area for almost 5 years]. We are travelers. We are athletes and we are dancers. We are enthusiastic about food. We are spontaneous. We are addicted to the sun. We are in love.

Most importantly... we are HAPPY. We are the Perkes.

Shortly after we had finally gotten settled in Denver, we picked up and moved again. Here we come OMAHA!!! Nate’s job keeps us on our toes… or rather on the road. The day after we arrived, we went to a baseball game to celebrate the 4th of July!! There were hot dogs, home runs, fried dough and fireworks galore!! We even learned Nate can pitch 66 miles an hour! Not bad for a basketball/lacrosse player!

We made tons of friends over the summer and had many adventures!! Anyone down for a midnight float down an unknown river??

My girls kept me sane and accompanied over the summer while our husbands worked LONG hours. Twilight was the CLIMAX! Kate, that was the best party I’ve ever been to! Although, Jessie’s MOCKtini Panini Party was in close 2nd! Girls… thanks for a GREAT summer! And Brittney. I miss you. Come back!!

Our Omaha adventures included FISHING! Our amazing friends, Chris & Brittney Varuska taught us everything we needed to know to hook those slimy suckers. I even threaded my own worm!!! To anyone unfamiliar with the technique… Google it, because it is too graphic to describe on a family friendly blog. Nate did especially well!!

And finally! We present our 36″ 11 lb. Tiger Muskies that we caught when we arrived in….

LOGAN!!! Our current home! This place is a photographers paradise with mountains, rivers, lakes, horses and sunrise/sunsets to satisfy Nate’s growing appetite for photo opportunity. We love spending time with all of the family that Nate has here. There is nothing like returning to our roots. Both Mom and Papa Perkes were born and raised here in Cache Valley.

Since we’ve moved here to Logan, we unfortunately haven’t really stayed. We go everywhere!

Specifically, we had the incredible opportunity to meet up with all 5 Perkes brothers and the 4 wives as well as Mom & Dad, in Puerto Rico to begin the adventure of a lifetime. The Perkes Adventure Family Cruise!! We did this to commemorate MAX, our soon to be missionary, who leaves in mid-February for MILAN ITALY! The cruise was phenomenal!

From swimming in waterfalls in the tropical rain forests of Puerto Rico [adove]…

…to surfing in Barbados…

… to swinging through the trees with zip lines on St. Maarten (you’d think the Perkes brothers haven’t fully evolved yet from the way they took to the trees, Tarzan-style)…

… we even got to SALSA, my favorite past time! You can’t come to the Caribbean and not cut a little rug!! We also visited St. Thomas, Antigua and St. Lucia… ALL AMAZING!

Overall, it was one of the most thrilling and satisfying adventures in the history of the Perkes clan. We made memories never to be forgotten. Mom & Dad, we love you and are so grateful you have taught us how to love and laugh and play like pro’s! Thank you so much!!

[Please refer to their blog for a MUCH more thorough depiction of our little vacation! Words can't really describe it... but Papa Perkes sure does come close!]

In stark contrast…. you know it’s cold when your mustache freezes. Welcome back to Logan.

Unfortunately, we didn’t take very many pictures over the holidays. We went on the cruise right before Thanksgiving. We got home just in time for me to plan and prepare MY VERY FIRST Thanksgiving Dinner!! We spent Christmas Eve with the Perkes… Christmas Day with the Morales’ and New Years in Rexburg with Jake, Kate, Josh, Brooke, Max and Co (4 out of 5 Perkes boys, 3 wives and our sweet nieces and nephews). What an amazing holiday! Probably the best I’ve ever had.

Now, let me introduce you to Mathilda, one of Grandpa Ballards cows. She got on the blog bi-accident… and I didn’t have the nerve to fix it. It would have taken way too long to replace her and this post is already just that…. way too long.

To sum it all up… we are both the happiest we’ve ever been in our lives. Though marriage isn’t easy, it was never meant to be and we are incredibly in love and live in the kind of bliss most seek for! We feel so blessed for the lives we have lived and everything that has brought us together. To our loving, devoted and most amazing family… Thank You. We owe you our everything and you are truly our cherished ones.
