Live It Up! – Summer of 2010…
I can’t even believe that the summer is over… *sigh*. I love the sun and the heat, and BBQ’s and having a tan, and gardening and boating and watermelon. I could digress endlessly. I’ve actually been pestering Nate a little about moving to a place with perpetual summers: Arizona, St. George, Southern California… but no. Boise is home. Having family close by makes the winters well worth it.
Anyways, I need to give a rugged rundown of our summer here. My lack of posting has NOTHING to do with ‘uneventfulness’, just…. laziness? There probably won’t be any order or any particular flow, but something is better than nothing!! And I just feel this urge to DOCUMENT!
First and foremost, our summers wouldn’t be summers without boating. It is now a staple. For obvious reasons [THE BABY!! MUAH!], I didn’t do any wakeboarding but I still loved wakesurfing and even just being on the boat and enjoying the summer heat. Nate got better and better at everything behind the boat, of course! His wakeboarding jumps are higher and farther than ever before! We decided to try out a new venue and crossed the stateline into Oregon and explored the Owyhee National Park and Reservoir. It was beautiful!!!
There was actual potential for disaster when we couldn’t find the camp ground in the middle of NO WHERE… Nate kept the kids semi-occupied for HOURS in the back. We retreated at midnight and then headed back the next morning with CORRECT directions.
Nate and I are lucky to have both of our birthdays in the summer, and only a week and a half apart too! My birthday was SUPER relaxed; JUST what I needed. It was on a Sunday and the BEST thing about it was that Nate made me Breakfast, Lunch AND Dinner in bed. I felt like a QUEEN!! It was a glorious day where I had him ALL to myself and that is the best present of all.
For his birthday this year, I had a little theme and for lack of a better suited title, it’d probably be: ‘Live It Up!!’… meaning that I want us to take full advantage of our current ‘freedom’ and go out and have fun and just… LIVE IT UP! SO, one of his birthday presents was a pair of tickets to an OUTDOOR theater in the mountains about an hour north of Star in Garden Valley. We saw ‘Thoroughly Modern Milly” and it was a blast!!
And again in accordance with that theme, I also got Nate a certificate to a cool dinner venue in downtown Boise, and tickets to a concert by one of our favorite bands:
The concert was AMAZING!! We felt like high school kids again, even though we were the only ones there without a giant X on the backs of our hands signifying ‘Underage’. John Vesely, the lead singer/songwriter/creator of Secondhand Serenade, has amazing vocals and HARMONIES. We especially love his acoustic work and my personal favorite that night was: ‘Fall for You’ with John on the piano.
Here are our FAVORITE SONGS and here is us at the Concert!!
I can’t help but make mention of a band that opened for Secondhand Serenade that night: CAMERA CAN’T LIE. They were the most shy, humble guys from Minnesota that you can imagine. Their music, though, was pure power. We bought some of their albums that night, and now THEY are the soundtrack of this summer.
As far as Nate’s photography is concerned, this summer has been MONUMENTAL. From here on out, I think anything I have to say is pathetically supplemental to what Nate has already described on his own blog.
So, it will suffice to say that his adventures began in NYC with his ADORABLE parents. I’ve only chosen this ONE picture out of the THOUSAND’S that he has of this bridal shoot. But click HERE
for more of Jess and HERE
for a little more of New York.
After NY, Nate traveled to Portsmouth, NH for another photography gig and from there met me in Vermont for a mini-family reunion with my folks. More on that tomorrow!
The ULTIMATE Jasmine Star Experience
Truly, this adventure deserves its own post or SERIES of posts, but I’ve been so excited to talk about it that I decided to include it today. It was a lengthy journey and process to begin with, but again I don’t want to repeat things that Nate has already divulged in vivid and lively detail.
SO… to begin, he was made aware of the opportunity to enter to win a seat in a unique Jasmine Star workshop. I’ll let HER explain in greater detail:
We were ECSTATIC, literally jumping and screaming and laughing when we found out that Nate was one of the five chosen to attend!! This is his winning video:
I got to watch him LIVE online almost the entire time! It was a blast…. except for the time when I called him and SAW him IGNORE MY CALL!!! Stinker!!
Here are Nate’s thoughts, pictures, insights, notes and memories from the 5-Day event.
Apart from this being an amazing opportunity for Nate to learn, it was THE most important day in the lives of Billy and Laura who got married…. LIVE ON THE INTERNET!!! Here is Nate’s selection from THAT momentous occasion:
More than anything, as glad as I am to have him home again, I am SO grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to Nate. It’s been said of him that ‘he attracts good things into his life’ and that is SO evident in this epic Summer of 2010. To those that have loved, supported, taught and encouraged him:
